The ATS HERMES Inverter has been selected by NASA Glenn Research Center for advanced research for battery powered commercial aircraft. The ATS Hermes inverter is capable of powering 500kW motors operating from 1,000VDC Batteries. This will allow NASA scientists to evaluate the next generation of batteries and PM motors required for the success of this program. The ATS inverters will be installed on NEAT in 2021. The ATS HERMES Inverter is designed to operate PM Traction Motors from a 1,100 VDC common Bus.. Deliveries commenced in January of 2020 and are being built to order for advance research programs operating at higher battery voltages.. This field-oriented control traction inverter has. advanced features such as DPWM, Physics models of the motor (no lookup tables), breakdown torque operation, and automatic variable switching frequency to name a few.
